Schumacher name a boost for F1

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone is keen to get the Schumacher name back into the sport.

While Michael Schumacher continues to recover from the 2013 head injury that left him in a coma his son Mick has been making waves in Formula 4.

Ecclestone is eager to cash in on the Schumacher name to give F1 a much needed boost.

"If he is anywhere near as good as his father, why not?" Ecclestone said in an interview with German newspaper Bild.

"It would be good for Formula 1 if the name Schumacher were represented again."

Having spent his early career racing under his mother's maiden name Mick is now ready to step up and take over the mantle from his father.

"I want to be an F1 world champion, like every driver," Schumacher said.

"F3 is the next step for me and I can hardly wait.

"2017 will certainly be a challenge, but the tests in the past few weeks have shown that the car is great fun to drive.

"This is the category that all the big names have come through.

"From the point of view of professionalism, it's a bit closer to F1 and a bit more difficult."

Mick Schumacher will drive for the Prema Powerteam in Formula 3 in 2017.
