ANC NDC confirms Fransman's suspension

ANC NDC confirms Fransman's suspension

Marius Fransman, former leader of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape remains suspended, the ANC national disciplinary committee (NDC) confirmed.

The committee found Fransman guilty in November last year of abusing his office and for bringing the party into disrepute for comments he made in media.

Khusela Sangoni, ANC National Communications Manager, said they were disappointed that Fransman had told the public that he had been cleared by the NDC when he had not.

"This is the final process; the matter had been referred back to the NDC by appeals committee who had insisted that in order to protect the integrity of the ANC, we must ensure that there is on procedural irregularities. Once the matter has been decided by the NDC – it is final," Sangoni said.

Fransman chose not to attend the hearing, saying that he would not be complicit in a "kangaroo court".

The charge of abusing his office stemmed from allegations of sexual assault brought against him by his former personal assistant, Louisa Wynand, in January 2016.

Fransman has maintained that the charges against him are part of a conspiracy to have him removed from the party.

With the NDC's ruling now in force, Fransman is now suspended from the party for five years.
