WATCH: AKA on Sway In The Morning
It was AKA’s turn to make South Africa proud when he visited popular US show, Sway In The Morning and the Supa Mega did not disappoint.
Sway Calloway started the show with a ‘crazy intro’ as AKA called it, mentioning some of the rapper’s achievements thus far.
Sway wastes no time in questioning AKA about Cassper Nyovest, asking if the ‘beef’ between the two can be compared to the Drake and Meek Mill drama. The South African rapper responded jokingly asking, “Who is Drake and who is Meek Mill? Am I Drake? I would hope so”.
Sway touched on the subject where he questions the rapper about not wanting to open up for international artists and AKA admitted to it, saying, “It took me some time to realize that these are my people. The line they (international artists) always used was ‘it is good exposure for you’ until I realized you can’t expose me to my own people. It just didn’t make sense to me anymore, I should probably just start doing my own concerts so that is what I started doing”. He also added that aspiring artists needed that kind of exposure and that is good if they are starting their career.
A proud moment for AKA and for most South Africans too was when Sway sang along to one of the rapper’s songs.
The Baddest singer also spoke about his bae, Bonang Matheba during the interview saying, “I have someone in my life that treats me very well and who I adore”. AKA touched on the fact that their relationship didn’t start out in the best of ways saying, “You only have one life to live and if you love someone and you feel it and you really want to give it a go, you should take a shot man. If you got a shot, you gotta shoot it. At the end of the day, it’s your life. People get hurt in love but I’m not the first man to do this.”
The rapper praised artists in America saying that the thing he enjoys most about visiting the US is being inspired and seeing the level at which artists operate at saying, “Everything in America is bigger”.
The SA rapper was also given the chance to do his freestyle and he killed it, making SA fans proud.
